This Connection is affiliated with the Asian and Pacific Islander Aggies (AandPIA) Living Learning Community and the Strategic Asian and Pacific Islander Retention Initiative (SAandPIRI). This LLC is a space for those interested in Asian American & Pacific Islander culture, history, and community to live and learn together. Participants in this FYAC will have the opportunity to learn about campus resources; meet AandPI community members including faculty and staff; and is designed to assist new Aggies with their transition to UC Davis. This FYAC is open to all students who identify with or who are interested in learning more about the Asian American & Pacific Islander community. First priority to register for this Connection is given to AandPIA LLC residents. All other interested first-year students will be considered if space remains during open registration.

Bring Your A Game: 7 Habits of the Highly Effective Transfer Student is intended for new transfer students who know what it means to be successful and don't want to be tripped up in their transition to UC Davis. This course is for students who want to maximize their time while at UC Davis, develop success strategies to achieve educational and personal goals, and avoid being that transfer student who dreams big but spends valuable time setting vague expectations for their life with no real vision of success. In this seven week connection we will focus on the elements that lead to practical and actionable habits that can be be applied to reaching your goals.

[Exclusive for "We Are First" LLC residents - EOP, GSP, and first-generation students]

True crime is a nonfiction literary, podcast, and film genre that examines crimes and the actions of people associated with and affected by criminal events. This group aims to bring together a community of like-minded peers to discuss sensitive topics with compassion, while gaining a better understanding of the criminal legal system and how investigative journalism highlights important cases with respect and sensitivity.

Participants will review the details of true crime cases to learn about the investigation process and case outcomes. We'll analyze introductory details of cases and use detective work to try to predict their conclusions. We'll uncover important themes with larger social impact, including how media coverage and the criminal legal system displays bias against people of color.

If you listen to true crime podcasts, are interested in a career in the criminal legal system, or want to discuss topics about larger social issues, this may be the group for you. You'll even gain personal safety tips and an introduction to student clubs and orgs that align with this topic.

This group is a great first step toward creating a supportive circle of friends and mentors within the larger UC Davis Christian community. Together we'll focus on topics that are important for new college students:

This is a Christian based Aggie Connection where we will watch short videos, engage in discussions, learn from one another and uplift each other. This group will help equip you with tools and a biblical framework to navigate academic and personal challenges and reach your goals with purpose. Most importantly, this experience will add to your amazing and memorable first year at UC Davis.

The UC Davis School of Education is preparing the best education leaders, researchers, and teachers in the country. As you begin your UC Davis journey, you can educate yourself about the School of Education community, the undergraduate minor, and their academic/professional development programs (teaching credential, PhD, EdD). Hear from School of Ed. faculty and graduate students about their research centers and projects, reflect on your own educational journey, and start scripting options for your major and career pathway. You'll also learn about high paying on campus jobs for undergraduate students, like tutoring, that will earn you money now and help prepare you for a future career in Education. Together we'll form a small community of new students just like yourself who understand the power of knowledge and the promise of education.
